Transportation

For by somthing, there are two cases where the preposition a is used, when you go on foot or on horseback, otherwise, you should use en.

el pie – a pie – on foot

el caballo – a caballo – on horseback

Note: The bus has several different names in Latin American Spanish: liebre (small bus – Chile), camión (Mexico), colectivo (Argentina), among others. When in doubt, use bus or autobús

Un boleto, por favor.	One ticket, please.
Me bajo en la próxima parada.	I get off at the next stop.

Al and del

In Spanish, you never say de el. Instead, these words are combined together into del.

Estamos cerca del café ahora.

• We are close to the cafe now.

Quiero ir al aeropuerto en la mañana.

• I want to go to the airport in the morning.

El hotel está al lado de la estación de tren.

• The hotel is next to the train station.

But de and a don't combine with la, los, or las.

Estamos cerca de la calle.

We are close to the street.

¿Por qué no quieres ir a los parques?

Why don't you want to go to the parks?

Vives cerca de aquí ?

do you live near here?
